New report shows why nature-friendly farming makes financial sense.
The Nature Friendly Farming Network (NFFN) has launched a major new report in Westminster on the opening day of Nature Friendly Farming Week, setting out the economic and environmental case for an ambitious transition to nature-friendly farming.
Hosted by Alistair Strathern MP in the Houses of Parliament, the launch event brought together MPs, policymakers and key figures from across the farming and environmental sectors. Speakers included Lord Deben, former Chair of the Climate Change Committee, and Liberal Democrat Environment spokesperson Alistair Carmichael MP.
The report, ‘The Nature of Business: Delivering resilience, food security and economic value through nature-friendly farming’, sets out the evidence for why nature-friendly farming is the right approach for ensuring the long-term viability and resilience of farm businesses. It argues that putting nature, soil health and water management at the heart of farming is essential for future food security and economic stability.
NFFN CEO Martin Lines said: “The alarm bells are ringing ever louder. The research in this report shows the current farming model is not delivering for farm profitability or the environment. If we continue to degrade national assets, the consequences for farming will be severe. Business as usual is not an option.
