Thinking of planting trees on your land? The Woodland Trust is here to help.
Almost all woodlands in Northern Ireland are planted with some form of grant assistance. If you’re thinking of planting trees on your land, the Woodland Trust can help by providing trees, grants and access to funding schemes.
There are so many reasons to plant trees and hedges. They provide shade and shelter for livestock, transform unproductive land, extend the grazing season, enrich soils, and offer a solution for biosecurity, with all the environmental benefits to boot.
Planting native broadleaved species helps local landscapes become more diverse and more resilient to future threats, such as pests and disease. All trees and shrubs we supply are UK & Ireland sourced and grown.
The Woodland Trust has grants available and also help landowners to avail of DAERA’s grants.
Some of the grants available:
DAERA’s Small Woodland Grant Scheme* is specifically for new native woodland planting of 0.20 hectares and larger;
DAERA’s Forest Expansion Scheme* is for new woodland planting of 3 hectares and larger;
The Woodland Trust’s MOREwoods scheme** is open to anyone wanting to plant woodland of at least 500 trees on at least half a hectare of land;
The Woodland Trust’s MOREhedges scheme** is open to anyone wanting to plant new hedging projects of 100 metres or more.
*DAERA’s Forest Expansion Scheme and Small Woodland Grant offer 100% funding to Northern Ireland landowners wishing to establish woodlands of 0.2 Ha (0.5 acres) or more. Applications close 31 August.
**We can give advice and saplings, and cover up to 75% of costs as well as arrange for contractors to plant the trees/ hedges.
