Our founder has been recognised by the conservation organisation with its most prestigious award for championing nature-friendly farming.

NFFN CEO Martin Lines has been awarded the RSPB Medal for his dedication to nature-friendly farming and conservation.

The charity honoured Martin for his work tireless work championing farmers who put nature at the heart of their food production. This includes founding the NFFN in 2017 and establishing it as a leading farmer-led movement, championing awareness, knowledge-sharing and stronger policies for food, farming, nature and the climate.

According to the RSPB, working with the NFFN has enhanced its policy and advocacy work on land use, while Martin’s knowledge and enthusiasm have been key in supporting nature recovery across the landscape.

Martin said: "This is such a surprise and honour. Through making nature-positive changes on our own farm, meeting farmers across the country doing incredible things for nature and working with charities such as the RSPB, my passion to support the farming sector has continued to grow. Setting up the Nature Friendly Farming Network has been vital for farming in the UK and seeing the real progress we have made gives me hope for the future of farming.”

Martin has played a truly significant role in championing farmers, and it is a huge privilege for the RSPB to work alongside him and the NFFN.

Beccy Speight, Chief Executive, RSPB

RSPB chief executive Beccy Speight said: "Martin’s initiative to set up the Nature Friendly Farming Network has been pivotal in securing hope for farmers. It’s through nature-friendly farming that we can address climate change, build resilience in UK farming, and reverse the declines in our wildlife.

"Martin has played a truly significant role in championing farmers, and it is a huge privilege for the RSPB to work alongside him and the NFFN.”

As well as working on his family’s Cambridgeshire arable farm - which went insecticide-free and introduced habitat areas following a visit from the RSPB - Martin has been the contractor for the charity’s Hope Farm since 2018, helping to halve pesticide use and restore soil health.

Martin’s award was presented at RSPB's AGM on 4 October 2025.
