NFFN Cymru and partners are joining forces for two days of knowledge sharing and discussion on scaling up sustainable farming approaches.

NFFN Cymru is playing a leading role in organising a new weekend event celebrating nature-friendly farming in Wales.

Cynefin takes place for the first time at the Llangorse Multi Activity Centre near Brecon on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, with organisers hoping to bring together farmers, conservationists, policymakers and nature enthusiasts for two days of talks, activities and entertainment.

Events bringing nature-friendly farmers together to share knowledge have grown in popularity in recent years, with Cynefin acting as the Welsh equivalent of events such as Groundswell in England and Fields Good in Northern Ireland.

NFFN Cymru farmers will be speaking across the two days, with the programme exploring topics including the role of grazing livestock to act as landscape engineers, the importance of habitat such as hedgerows and how farmers can help secure the future of iconic species like the curlew.

NFFN Cymru manager Rhys Evans said: “Cynefin is a vital opportunity to celebrate all the great work farmers are doing for nature across Wales. We often hear negative headlines linking agriculture to biodiversity decline or poor water quality, but nature-friendly farming can have tremendous environmental benefits and this is a chance to share that story more widely.

It will enable farmers to come together in a relaxed and informal setting to share their knowledge and learn more about how working with nature is not only good for our planet, but can make farms more profitable and productive while protecting them against volatile weather.

“It will enable farmers to come together in a relaxed and informal setting to share their knowledge and learn more about how working with nature is not only good for our planet, but can make farms more profitable and productive while protecting them against volatile weather.

“We’re hoping Cynefin will help to forge strong, long-lasting relationships between everyone in Wales who is interested in farming, nature, the environment and our rural communities.”

The Saturday will look in more detail at nature-friendly land management, with practical activities such as a hedgerow safari and soil analysis session alongside talks. There will be a keynote speech by renowned farmer and TV presenter Alun Elidyr before an evening of entertainment, including Welsh music from Gwilym Bowen Rhys and Lo-fi Jones.

On Sunday, the programme will explore how farmers can collaborate at landscape scale, while there will also be a guided walking tour of the host venue.

The event is being organised by NFFN Cymru in partnership with the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust. To find out more or book tickets, visit our Eventbrite.
